This week’s written assignment asks you to consider two things:

1) communication patterns and how they affect conflict and

2) how dialogue can be used as a tool for conflict resolution.

When you are working on this assignment, please keep a few things in mind:

The assignment begins by noting two distinct types of communication patterns:  Interest based and positional bargaining.  You may focus your discussion on these two patterns or you may choose to discuss other communication patterns. If you choose to focus on other patterns, please be specific about what those patterns are and be sure to tie them back to the question:  how do they affect conflict.

Do not forget to address dialogue as a tool, keeping in mind that “dialogue”, as used here, refers to a specific tool for conflict resolution and does not refer simply to effective communication.  “Dialogue” as a tool has a specific focus and a method to it.

Finally, remember to include your example and to use two peer-reviewed sources other than your text (although you may also use your text).
